Part-time cleaner or deep clean: which one your home needs

When a regular part-time cleaner suits a Singapore home, when a one-off deep clean suits better, how to combine them and what to ask each company.

Two different jobs

A part-time cleaner and a deep clean are often compared as if they were the same service at different sizes. They are not. A part-time cleaner keeps a home in good shape through regular visits, while a deep clean resets a home that needs more than routine care. Knowing which problem you are trying to solve makes it easier to book the right service and to compare companies fairly.

This article explains when each one suits, how households combine them and what to ask before you book. It does not repeat the detail in each service guide; for that, see the part-time cleaner guide and the deep cleaning guide.

When a part-time cleaner suits

A part-time cleaner usually visits on a fixed schedule, such as weekly or fortnightly, and works through an agreed list of surface tasks: dusting, vacuuming and mopping, wiping the kitchen, scrubbing bathrooms and taking out the rubbish.

This arrangement tends to suit households that:

  • Are short on time: working adults or families who want the routine handled without thinking about it each week.
  • Want consistency: the same cleaner, or the same team, learns how you like things done.
  • Live in a home that is already in reasonable shape: regular visits maintain a standard rather than create one.
  • Prefer to spread the effort: small, regular sessions rather than one large job.

A part-time cleaner is less suited to a home that has gone a long time without attention, since the first few visits can be spent catching up rather than maintaining.

When a deep clean suits

A deep clean is a one-off, more thorough job, often done by a team with heavier equipment. It reaches the areas that regular visits usually skip: inside cabinets and appliances, behind and under furniture, grout and tile joints, window tracks, the kitchen hood and built-up grime in bathrooms.

A deep clean tends to suit these situations:

  • Before or after a festive period: when you want the home fully refreshed.
  • After a long gap: a home that has not had regular cleaning for a while.
  • Before starting a regular cleaner: so routine visits begin from a clean baseline.
  • After illness, guests or a busy season: when a normal visit would not be enough.

Some situations look like a deep clean but have their own services. If you are leaving a rental or handing over a flat, the move-out cleaning guide covers what is usually expected. If you only need a single visit of normal cleaning rather than a full reset, the ad hoc cleaning guide explains how one-off sessions work.

How they work together

The two also combine well. One approach is to book a deep clean first, then start a part-time cleaner to keep that standard, and add another deep clean once or twice a year or before a festive period.

Combining them works well when the two scopes do not overlap. Ask the part-time cleaner to focus on the regular list, and keep deeper tasks such as degreasing the hood, scrubbing grout or cleaning inside the fridge for the deep clean. That way you are not paying a deep-clean team for work your regular cleaner already does, and your regular cleaner is not asked to catch up on tasks that need different equipment.

What part-time cleaning costs, from published rates

Part-time cleaning is usually priced by the hour or by the session. The table below shows each company's lowest published rate for part-time or regular cleaning, with the source and capture date. These are advertised rates with conditions, not quotes; check minimum hours, whether supplies are included and whether the rate depends on a package.

For the most common unit (per hour), the lowest published rates from 15 companies run from S$16 to S$26. Each figure is one company's own advertised rate with its conditions, not a market average or a quote.

Deep cleaning is usually quoted per job and depends on the size and condition of the home, so ask for a written quote that lists the rooms and tasks included.

What to ask each company

The questions differ because the services differ.

Questions for a part-time cleaner

  • Will the same cleaner come each time, and what happens if they are unavailable?
  • What is the minimum visit length, and how is extra time handled?
  • Do I provide supplies and equipment, or does the cleaner bring them?
  • Can we agree a written task list before the first visit?
  • How do I change the schedule or pause the arrangement?

Questions for a deep clean

  • Which rooms and tasks are included, and which are extras?
  • How many people will come, and roughly how long will it take, in words such as "half a day" or "most of a day"?
  • What equipment and products will you bring, and are they safe for my surfaces?
  • What happens if an area is not done to the agreed standard?

For either service, it is reasonable to ask whether the company holds a licence. NEA's cleaning business licence page explains which cleaning businesses need one.

Questions

Is a deep clean the same as a part-time cleaner's visit, only longer?

No. A part-time cleaner handles regular surface tasks on a schedule, while a deep clean is a one-off job that reaches hidden and built-up areas such as inside cabinets, grout and window tracks, often with a team and heavier equipment.

Should I book a deep clean before starting a part-time cleaner?

It often helps. A deep clean first gives a clean baseline, so the regular visits can maintain the home rather than spend the first few sessions catching up.

Can a part-time cleaner do deep-clean tasks?

Some can handle a few deeper tasks if you agree them in advance and allow enough time, but tasks that need heavier equipment usually suit a deep clean. Keep a shared checklist so the two scopes do not overlap.
