13 companies publish a tap replacement or repair line, including a leaking-tap fix, all priced per job. Their lowest matching rates run from S$60 to S$130 per job, with S$80 per job in the middle.

The lowest line is "Water Tap Replacement" at S$60 per job. One company prints "Tap Installation" at S$80 to S$120 per job, and others print a single starting rate, such as from S$90, from S$110 or from S$120 per job. See tap replacement for the service and plumbing costs for other jobs.

Labour only or labour plus the tap

One line reads "Supply Labour to replace kitchen sink/basin tap (normal type)", from S$80 per job. Three companies print a "basic type" kitchen or bathroom tap line from S$130 per job. If your tap is a different type, ask whether these lines still apply.

Most lines do not say whether the tap itself is included. For a kitchen tap replacement, ask whether the price covers a new tap and, if so, which model. If you want to choose the tap yourself, ask whether the price changes, and read about supplying your own parts first.

Mixer and wall taps

No published line names a mixer tap, shower mixer, wall mixer or concealed valve, so the directory has no figure for them. Mixers and wall-mounted taps can involve more work, so ask for a quote on the exact tap you plan to fit, with its model name.

When you pick a new tap, look for the water efficiency label. Taps and mixers are covered by PUB's Mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme, which rates products with ticks for water efficiency. Products advertised, offered for sale or displayed must show the label prominently, and the registration number is on the mandatory label.

Repair or replace

HDB's home care guide says a tap usually leaks when the washer is worn out, and shows how to replace it. With the water off, remove the plastic cap and screw on the tap, then the handle. Loosen the spindle anti-clockwise with a spanner and remove it, unscrew the nut at the bottom of the spindle and replace the worn rubber washer. Then re-assemble the tap.

Repair lines are published too. Two companies print "Tap / Faucet Repair" from S$70 per job, and one prints "Fix leaking tap or faucet" from S$80 per job. Across all 13 companies, tap lines run from S$60 to S$130 per job, so a repair is not always the lower figure. When you weigh leaking tap repair cost against a new tap, ask which the company suggests for your tap and why.

PUB's tips on finding leaks say a leaking tap can lose up to 2 litres of water an hour, and prolonged leaks lead to high water bills, water wastage and possible damage to your property. PUB advises engaging a Licensed Plumber to detect and repair leaks. If you see water stains or mould under the sink, see leak repair.

Who can do the work

Under PUB's rules on plumbing works, regulated water service and sanitary plumbing works must be done by a PUB Licensed Plumber, except for listed simple works that a handyman may do. Replacing or removing a tap or mixer is on that list. Since 2018, engaging a plumber who is not licensed for regulated works has been an offence. A handyman may change your tap, but other water service work needs a PUB Licensed Plumber.

If you are unsure where a job crosses that line, check which jobs need a licensed plumber.

What changes the price

These points can change what you pay, so raise them when you ask for a quote.

What a fair quote should list

A clear quote for a tap job should show:

  • The tap model, or a note that you supply the tap
  • Labour, shown separately from parts
  • New hoses or valves, if any are needed
  • Removal of the old tap
  • Testing for leaks after fitting
  • The warranty on the work and how long it lasts

PUB's page on plumbing works advises discussing the scope and cost first, asking for itemised quotes and getting at least three quotes. See how to compare quotes to line them up.

Questions

How much does it cost to replace a kitchen tap?

13 companies publish a tap rate, from S$60 to S$130 per job, with S$80 per job in the middle, as printed. A line for a normal type kitchen sink or basin tap starts from S$80 per job, and three basic type lines start from S$130 per job. Ask whether the tap itself is included.

Should I repair or replace a leaking tap?

It depends on the tap. A tap usually leaks when the washer is worn out, and a new washer may be enough. Two companies print a repair line from S$70 per job, while tap lines across 13 companies run from S$60 to S$130 per job, so a repair is not always lower. Ask which the company suggests.

Can a handyman replace a tap?

Yes. Under PUB's plumbing works rules, replacing or removing a tap or mixer is simple work a handyman may do. Other regulated water service and sanitary plumbing works must be done by a PUB Licensed Plumber, so ask about licensing if the job goes beyond the tap.

Does the price include the new tap?

Often the line does not say. Most published tap lines do not state whether a tap is supplied. Before you book, ask whether a tap is included, which model it is and whether the price changes if you supply your own, and ask for the answer to be shown on the quote.

How much does it cost to replace a shower mixer?

The directory has no published shower mixer prices: no tap line prices a shower mixer, wall mixer or concealed valve. Ask companies for a quote on your exact mixer, with its model name and a photo, and check whether the mixer itself is included.

What does the water efficiency label on a tap mean?

Taps and mixers are covered by PUB's Mandatory Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme, which rates products with ticks for water efficiency. A tap advertised, offered for sale or displayed must show the label prominently, with the registration number on the mandatory label. Check the label when you choose a new tap.
