In total, 26 companies publish a gas top-up line, and 17 of them price it per unit. Taking each company's lowest matching rate, the 17 that price per unit run from S$30 to S$90 per unit, with S$60 in the middle. Of the other 9, 3 price per job, 1 per psig, 1 per kg and 4 print no unit.
Most lines are for R22 gas, and a few are for R32 or R410A. Several are printed as ranges, and some are priced per psig or per kg, so what you finally pay depends on how much gas goes in.
R22, R32 and R410A
Older units mostly use R22. Newer units usually use R32 or R410A. You do not need to guess: the refrigerant type is printed on the unit label, and the technician needs to know it to bring the right gas.
Most published lines in our directory are for R22. For R32 or R410A units there are only a few published lines, so the table may not reflect your unit. Ask companies for a quote that names your refrigerant type.
Why gas runs low
An aircon's refrigerant circuit is sealed. The gas is not used up as the unit runs, so a system in good condition should not need regular top-ups. When the gas is low, the usual reason is an aircon gas leak at a pipe joint, a flare nut or the coil.
This is why a top-up on its own may not last. If the leak is not found and fixed, the gas can drain out again, and you pay for another top-up.
Weak cooling is not always a gas problem. Daikin lists common causes of an indoor unit not cooling, including a dirty air filter, a blocked air inlet or outlet, a temperature set too high, open windows or doors, the remote not in cooling mode and faulty parts. It also notes that skipping regular servicing reduces cooling performance and can clog the cooling coil (Daikin Singapore FAQs). For more simple checks, see our guide on aircon not cold.
If an older unit keeps losing gas, you may weigh repairs against a new unit. Any new air-conditioner must meet NEA's Minimum Energy Performance Standards, as models below the standard cannot be sold in Singapore (NEA).
Inspection and leak checks
Before a top-up, many companies inspect the unit, read the pressure and look for the leak. Some charge a separate diagnosis or call-out fee for this.

In total, 21 companies publish a repair, diagnosis or inspection line. Of these, 11 price it per job, from S$40 to S$100, with S$43.60 in the middle, as printed. Some charge per visit or a per-unit diagnosis fee, and one is waived if you go ahead with the repair.
These are charges for finding the fault, not repair prices. A leak repair, a part or the gas itself is charged separately unless the company says otherwise. For repair options, see aircon repair in Singapore.
What changes the price of a gas top-up
Several things move the final figure, even when two companies print similar per-unit rates.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Refrigerant type | Most published lines are for R22, so R32 and R410A units may need a separate quote. |
| Amount of gas needed | A company may price per psi, so a unit that is very low can cost more. |
| Leak repair | Finding and fixing a leak is separate work from adding gas. |
| Unit size | A larger unit can take more gas when the charge depends on the amount used. |
| Access | A hard-to-reach outdoor unit can take more time, so ask whether access changes the price. |
Published ranges reflect this. One company's published line reads S$40 to S$120, because the final charge depends on how much gas goes in.
If you have several units, check that each one actually needs gas, since a per-unit rate applies to each unit that is topped up. If they have not been serviced for a while, compare aircon servicing prices too, since weak cooling is not always about gas.

Compare aircon servicingWhat a fair quote should list
A clear quote helps you compare companies and check the work afterwards. Ask for these points in writing:
- Refrigerant type. The gas the company will use, matching your unit label.
- Pressure readings before and after. These show how low the system was and that it reached the right level.
- Leak check. Whether a leak check is included or charged separately.
- Leak repair price. What fixing a leak will cost if one is found, agreed before work starts.
- How the charge is worked out. Per unit, per psi or within a range.
To build a shortlist, compare aircon servicing companies and their published prices.
Questions
How do I know my aircon needs gas?
You cannot tell for sure by feel. Weak cooling has many causes, such as a dirty filter or the remote not being in cooling mode, so check those first. Water dripping from the outdoor unit is normal condensation, according to Daikin Singapore. A technician confirms low gas with a pressure reading.
Is it normal to top up aircon gas every year?
No. The refrigerant circuit is sealed, so gas should not run low with normal use. Needing gas every year usually means a leak at a joint, flare nut or coil. Ask for a leak check and a repair price rather than paying for repeated top-ups.
What gas does my aircon use?
Check the label on the unit, which shows the refrigerant type. Older units mostly use R22, and newer units usually use R32 or R410A. If you cannot find or read the label, ask the technician to confirm the gas and write it on your quote.
Is R32 gas more expensive to top up?
The published data cannot answer this. Only a few companies in our directory publish lines for R32 or R410A gas, so there is not enough to compare. Ask companies for a quote that names your refrigerant type and explains how the charge is worked out.
Can a gas top-up fix weak cooling?
Only when low gas is the cause. Weak cooling can also come from a dirty air filter, a blocked air inlet or outlet, a temperature set too high or faulty parts (Daikin Singapore FAQs). If a leak caused the low gas, a top-up alone may not last, so ask for the leak to be fixed.
What is a psi charge for aircon gas?
Psi is a unit of pressure. Instead of a flat rate, a company may charge for each psi the pressure is raised as gas is added, so the final amount depends on how much gas is needed. One published line in our directory is priced per psig.
