How to use this aircon servicing cost calculator

Pick a service and, for deeper cleans, a unit size. The calculator then shows published per-unit rates from companies in the directory.

There are two inputs. The first is the service: general servicing, chemical wash or chemical overhaul. The second is the unit size in British thermal units (BTU), which you choose only for a chemical wash or a chemical overhaul.

The result tells you how many companies publish a rate for your choice, then shows the lowest, middle and highest published rate per unit. Each is one company's own rate, not a blend of several. Nothing you enter is stored or sent.

What the inputs mean

General servicing

General servicing is the routine clean of one indoor unit. It has the most published rates in the tool.

Chemical wash and chemical overhaul

A chemical wash and a chemical overhaul are deeper cleans than general servicing. Companies price both by unit size, so the tool asks for the BTU rating. Read each company's description of what its wash or overhaul includes before you compare.

Unit size

Unit size is the BTU rating of your indoor unit. The guide to aircon BTU and room size explains how ratings relate to rooms. If your home has units of different sizes, check each size separately.

How the estimate uses published directory rates

The figures come from the HomezyPro directory when the site is built. Each one is a company's own published per-unit rate. On the service pages, every rate links to its source, so you can read the company's own wording when you compare aircon servicing.

The tool only shows a service and size when at least 3 companies publish a rate for it.

Companies publishing each rate in the estimator
ServiceUnit sizeCompanies publishing a rate
General servicingNot needed66
Chemical wash9,000 BTU6
Chemical wash12,000 BTU3
Chemical wash18,000 BTU3
Chemical overhaul9,000 BTU8
Chemical overhaul12,000 BTU12
Chemical overhaul18,000 BTU5
Chemical overhaul24,000 BTU6

Cassette units and a chemical wash on a 24,000 BTU unit have no figures, because fewer than 3 companies publish those rates.

How the calculation works

For the service and size you choose, the tool takes each company's lowest matching per-unit rate, so every company counts once. It then sorts these rates and shows three:

  • Lowest: the lowest rate any company publishes for that choice.
  • Middle: the rate in the middle of the list. For general servicing, 66 companies publish a rate and the two rates in the middle of the list are both S$40, so the middle is S$40.
  • Highest: the highest rate any company publishes for that choice.

When an even number of companies price a size and the two middle rates differ, no single rate sits in the middle, so the tool shows no middle.

The tool does not multiply a rate by your number of units. It does not add travel charges, gas top-up or Goods and Services Tax (GST), and it does not apply package discounts. For a total for your home, ask companies to quote for your units.

Getting a quote for several units

Many published lines are multi-unit or package prices, and some companies set a minimum number of units. When you contact companies, ask:

  • the aircon servicing price per unit for your number of units
  • whether a minimum number of units applies
  • what the service includes
  • whether there are any extra charges, and whether the price includes GST

See the guide to servicing cost by number of units, and the aircon servicing prices page for published rates with their sources.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) says to service aircon units regularly and get them inspected annually, in its energy saving tips for households.

If you live in an HDB flat, HDB's guide to maintaining air-conditioners says to inspect your aircon regularly. Brackets should be on concrete or brick walls only, not timber frames, and stainless steel brackets should be free of corrosion and rust. Check that there is no leaking and that condensate piping runs into the flat to a floor trap. HDB also says to check with your aircon serviceman whether a corroded or rusty unit needs replacing.

Limits of this estimate

Keep these limits in mind when you read this aircon servicing estimate:

  • Published rates, not quotes. The figures are rates companies publish. A quote for your units is the only price that applies to your job.
  • Rates change. Companies can update their published rates, and the tool shows the directory as it was when the site was built. Check the source before you book.
  • Missing services and sizes. Anything the tool does not show has fewer than 3 published rates.
  • Small samples. Some sizes rest on only 3 companies, such as a chemical wash for 12,000 or 18,000 BTU units.
  • No typical price. The tool never shows a typical or average price.

Questions

Why does the estimator show a range instead of one price?

Companies publish different rates for the same service, so no single figure fits every company. The estimator shows the lowest, middle and highest published rate per unit, each one company's own rate. It is not a typical or average price. For a price for your job, ask companies to quote for your units.

Why is there no middle figure for some sizes?

When an even number of companies publish a rate for a size and the two middle rates differ, no single rate sits in the middle. The only way to get a middle would be to average two rates, and the site does not publish averages. In that case the estimator shows only the lowest and highest published rates per unit.

Why can I not pick a cassette unit?

The estimator only shows a rate when at least 3 companies publish one for that service and size. Fewer than 3 companies publish a cassette rate, so it is left out. The same applies to a chemical wash for a 24,000 BTU unit. If you have a cassette unit, ask companies directly for a quote.

Does the estimate include gas top-up or GST?

No. The estimator shows published per-unit rates only. It does not add travel, gas top-up or GST, and it does not apply package discounts or multiply by your number of units. When you ask for a quote, ask what is included, whether the price includes GST and whether there are any extra charges.

How often should I service my aircon?

NEA's energy saving tips for households say to service aircon units regularly and get them inspected annually. For more on timing, see the guide on how often to service an aircon, and ask your serviceman about your own units.

Is my data stored when I use the estimator?

No. The estimator runs in your browser. The service and unit size you choose are used only to show the published rates on your screen, and nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere. You can change the inputs freely to compare services and sizes.
