The 18,000 and 24,000 BTU ranges start higher, but the cells overlap: the 18,000 BTU range starts below the upper end of the 9,000 BTU range, and the 12,000 BTU range sits inside the 9,000 BTU one. Each cell rests on a small number of companies, so one changed rate can move a range.

Wall-mounted and cassette units
Most lines that name a type of unit say wall-mounted or 9,000 to 12,000 BTU. There are no cassette prices in the directory, so there is no cassette figure here. Do not assume a wall-mounted rate applies to a cassette unit.
If you have cassette units, ask each company for a cassette quote. Give them the number of units and the size of each, and ask what the price covers.
Why an overhaul costs more than a chemical wash
The difference comes down to how far the indoor fan coil unit is taken apart. In a chemical overhaul, the technician dismantles it further than in a chemical wash, including parts such as the blower and the drain pan. More dismantling means more labour and more time per unit, and that shows in the price.

Which job your unit needs depends on its condition. Ask the company to explain what it sees inside the unit and why it suggests an overhaul rather than a wash.
When an overhaul is not worth paying for
If your aircon is old and inefficient, compare the overhaul with the cost of replacing it before you book.
NEA suggests looking at life cycle cost rather than purchase price alone: life cycle cost = purchase price + annual energy cost x lifespan in years. Appliances with more ticks on the Energy Label are generally more energy efficient. The Energy Label rates efficiency from one tick (Low) to five ticks (Excellent) and shows an annual energy cost and consumption worked out under fixed assumptions about daily use. For split and multi-split aircons, the model on the label is the outdoor unit's model number.

A clear quote lets you compare a chemical overhaul price from one company against another on the same terms. Before you book, check that it lists:
- The price per unit, and the unit sizes it covers in BTU.
- Any minimum number of units, and whether the rate is a multi-unit price (price each).
- What will be dismantled, such as the blower and the drain pan.
- Whether a gas top-up is included. One company's line says "RECHARGE GAS FOC" at S$196.20 per unit, as printed; for any other company, ask.
- Warranty terms, as stated by the company.
- Any extra charges for access, for example a unit that is hard to reach.

What is the difference between a chemical wash and a chemical overhaul?
