Deep cleaning vs post-renovation cleaning, side by side
Both are thorough cleans of a whole home. What sets them apart is the dirt each one removes and when you book it.
| Point | Deep cleaning | Post-renovation cleaning |
|---|---|---|
| What it removes | Built-up grime, kitchen grease, bathroom scale | Renovation dust, debris, paint and cement residue |
| When to book | Before a move, a festive season or after a long gap | After the contractor has finished and removed debris |
| How it is priced | Per job in most published rates | Per job in most published rates |
| What to confirm | Scope by room | Whether debris removal is included |
Read the rows together. A deep clean deals with what builds up while people live in a home, such as kitchen grease and bathroom scale. Post-renovation cleaning deals with what the works leave behind: renovation dust, paint spots and cement residue.
The last row matters most. Companies use different names for similar services, from "spring cleaning" to "post HIP deep clean", so the name alone does not tell you the scope. Ask for it room by room.
How is post-renovation cleaning different from a deep clean?
The difference is the dirt, not the effort. Both jobs are thorough, and both are usually priced per job. A deep clean lifts grime that has built up slowly in a lived-in home. Post-renovation cleaning removes the fine dust, paint and cement residue that renovation works leave on surfaces, fittings and floors.
Debris is a separate question. HDB says flat owners must make sure the renovation contractor removes and disposes of debris at a site approved by the National Environment Agency (NEA) if the Town Council does not provide a debris removal service. HDB also notes that you pay for Town Council haulage and debris removal where applicable. So clearing debris is not the cleaner's job by default.
When you weigh post reno vs deep clean, look at the flat as it is today. Fresh renovation dust points to post-renovation cleaning. Built-up grime with no recent works points to a deep clean.

The middle figure is a real published rate, not an average. Each figure is one company's own advertised rate with its conditions, not a quote.

Both per-job counts are odd, so each middle figure is the middle company's own published rate, not an average. The other lines are printed without a unit: 4 for deep cleaning, and 1 for post-renovation cleaning, printed as from S$360 for 3 rooms. One post-renovation line is printed as from S$450 to S$850+ per job, so ask which flat size each figure covers.

When to book which
Book post-renovation cleaning only after the last trade has finished. If the carpenter or painter still has work to do, new dust will settle on surfaces that have just been cleaned. Confirm with your contractor that the works and debris removal are done before you fix a date.
A deep clean suits a home with no fresh renovation dust, whether you are living in it or it stands empty. It fits before a move or a festive season, or after a long gap between thorough cleans.

What to ask the cleaning company
Before you book either clean, ask:
- What is cleaned in each room, and what is left out?
- How many cleaners will come, and for how many hours?
- Are cleaning supplies and equipment included?
- For post-renovation work, is debris removed, or must it be cleared before the cleaners arrive?
- Is Goods and Services Tax (GST) already shown in the price?
On GST, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) says not all businesses are registered for GST, and only GST-registered businesses may charge it. Prices displayed by a GST-registered business should be the final, GST-inclusive prices.
You do not need to look for a cleaning licence. NEA says businesses that provide domestic cleaning at a private residence do not need to be licensed. Its cleaning business licence covers non-domestic work, such as office cleaning or condo common areas.

Compare cleaning companiesWhich one should you choose?
Neither clean wins in general; it depends on your flat. If renovation dust covers the floors and fittings, book post-renovation cleaning once the works are done, and see the post-renovation cleaning cost guide. If you live in the home and grime has built up over time, a deep clean is the fit. To compare companies and their rates, see home cleaning prices.
Questions
Can a deep clean remove renovation dust?
Not as its main job. A deep clean is scoped for built-up grime, kitchen grease and bathroom scale in a lived-in home. Fresh renovation dust and paint or cement residue are what post-renovation cleaning is for. If you are unsure, ask the company what its deep clean covers room by room before you book.
Does post-renovation cleaning include debris removal?
Not by default. HDB says flat owners must make sure the renovation contractor removes and disposes of debris at an NEA-approved site if the Town Council does not provide a debris removal service. Ask the cleaning company whether debris removal is included in its price or whether the debris must be cleared before the cleaners arrive.
Is post-renovation cleaning more expensive?
Yes, in the published rates. Among the 7 companies in each block that price per job, post-renovation rates start at S$250 against S$190 for deep cleaning, and the middle rate is S$350 against S$280. What you pay depends on your flat's size and scope.
How long after renovation should I book cleaning?
Book it for after the last contractor has finished and the debris has been removed. If a trade comes back for touch-ups after the clean, fresh dust can settle again. Confirm with your contractor that all works are done before you fix a cleaning date.
Do I need both cleans?
Usually not. Pick the clean that matches the dirt in your flat now: post-renovation cleaning for fresh renovation dust and residue, and a deep clean for built-up grime in a lived-in home. If only some rooms were renovated, ask for the scope room by room.
Is the middle price an average?
No. Each block has an odd number of companies that price per job, 7 in each, so the middle figure is the middle company's own published rate. It is not an average, and it is not a quote for your flat. Your price depends on your flat's size and the scope you agree with the company.
