How to use this plumbing cost estimator

Choose one plumbing job from the list. That is the only input.

The result shows how many companies in the directory publish a rate for that job. It then shows the lowest, middle and highest published rate per job, with the scope the rate covers, such as one choke or one basic tap.

Treat the result as a plumber price estimate drawn from published rates, not as the price you will pay. Nothing you choose in the tool is stored or sent.

The jobs you can choose

The tool lists 11 jobs. The labels below match the tool, with the scope each rate covers where the tool gives one.

  • Choke clearing: one choke in a toilet bowl, floor trap or sink. See the toilet choke clearing cost guide.
  • Basin or sink installation.
  • Tap replacement: one basic tap. See the tap replacement cost guide.
  • Leak repair: one leak at an exposed pipe or fitting.
  • Toilet repair: one toilet part.
  • Flexible hose replacement.
  • Toilet bowl replacement: some prices include the bowl.
  • Bottle trap replacement.
  • Leak detection: a concealed leak, before any repair.
  • Water heater installation: check whether the heater is included.
  • Pipe repair.

How the estimate uses directory rates

The figures come from the HomezyPro directory when the site is built. For each job, the tool uses each company's own published per-job rate for that job. Every rate is linked to its source on the plumbing pages, where you can compare plumbers and check where each figure came from.

A job appears only when at least 3 companies publish a rate for it.

The middle figure is one company's real published rate, not an average, so you can trace it back to its source like the other two.

How the calculation works

For the job you choose, the tool takes each company's lowest matching rate. If a company publishes more than one rate for that job, only its lowest one is used. From those rates, the tool shows the lowest, the middle and the highest. When an even number of companies publish a rate and the two middle rates differ, there is no single middle rate, so the tool shows only the lowest and highest.

The tool does not add parts, after-hours charges or GST. It does not multiply a rate for several items, and it does not adjust for the day or time of your visit. There is no input for the number of items or for timing, because the site never multiplies a rate or invents an after-hours surcharge.

On GST, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) says only GST-registered businesses may charge GST, and not every business is registered. Prices displayed by GST-registered businesses should be the final prices with GST included, and IRAS has an e-Service to check whether a business is GST-registered. Ask the company whether its published price includes GST.

Who may do the work

PUB, Singapore's national water agency, says regulated water service and sanitary plumbing works must be done by a PUB Licensed Plumber, except listed simple plumbing works that a handyman may do. Engaging a plumber who is not licensed for regulated works has been an offence since 2018. The simple works on PUB's list include:

  • replacing or removing a tap or mixer
  • replacing a shower hose or showerhead
  • replacing the pipe between a stop valve and an instantaneous water heater
  • replacing a cistern flushing mechanism
  • installing or replacing a washbasin or sink and its trap
  • replacing a floor trap grating
  • clearing any blockage in a floor trap, toilet bowl or sanitary appliance

According to PUB, installing, changing or relocating toilet bowls and the sanitary piping system is sanitary plumbing work for a PUB Licensed Plumber. Pipework for a storage water heater is not on the simple-works list, so for water heater installation, check which type of heater you have and ask who will do the pipework. For a new bowl, see the toilet bowl replacement cost guide.

You can find a PUB Licensed Plumber through PUB's online listings, the Singapore Plumbing Society or your Town Council. Our guide on what needs a licensed plumber explains more.

Limits of this estimate

  • These are published rates, not quotes.
  • Rates change, and companies update their own prices.
  • The scope varies by company. One company's toilet repair may cover a different part from another's.
  • The tool does no maths for after-hours visits, parts or several items.
  • Leak detection, water heater installation and pipe repair each have only 3 companies, so their figures rest on a thin sample.

Your final plumbing job cost depends on the job and on what the company includes, so see plumbing costs for the wider picture. PUB advises discussing the scope and cost first, asking for itemised quotes and getting at least three quotes. See our guide on how to compare quotes.

Questions

Why does the estimator show three figures instead of one price?

Companies publish different rates for the same job, and what each rate covers can differ. The lowest, middle and highest published rates show you the spread instead of one number that could mislead. The middle is one company's real rate, not an average. Use the spread to judge the itemised quotes you receive.

Does the estimate include parts?

The tool adds nothing for parts. It shows each company's published per-job rate as it stands. Some toilet bowl replacement prices include the bowl and some do not, and for water heater installation you need to check whether the heater is included. Ask the company what parts its price covers before you book.

Why are some plumbing jobs missing?

A job appears only when at least 3 companies in the directory publish a rate for it. Jobs with fewer published rates are left out, so the tool never shows figures based on one or two prices. For a job that is not listed, describe it to a few companies and ask each for an itemised quote.

Do after-hours visits cost more?

The tool cannot tell you. None of the published rates it uses is an after-hours rate, and it adds no after-hours charge. If you need a visit in the evening, at the weekend or on a public holiday, ask the company before you book whether a different charge applies, and ask for it in your itemised quote.

Does the price include GST?

The tool does not add GST. IRAS says only GST-registered businesses may charge GST, and their displayed prices should already include it. Not every business is registered, and IRAS has an e-Service to check. Before you book, ask the company whether its published price includes GST.

Is my data stored when I use the estimator?

No. The tool runs in your browser, and the job you choose is not stored or sent anywhere. You do not give your name, address or contact details to use it, and you can change the job as often as you like to compare results.
